RENO, Nev. and SACRAMENTO, Calif., Nov. 04, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — EquityProtect, a leading innovator in real estate fraud prevention and data security, today announced a new agreement with Real Estate Business Services, LLC (REBS), the for-profit subsidiary of the CALIFORNIA ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS® (C.A.R.), to make EquityProtect’s preventive property-fraud protection platform available to C.A.R. members.
The new program is designed to help California REALTORS® extend the client relationship beyond the closing table by giving them tools to educate property owners about fraud risk, identify properties that may warrant additional attention and offer preventive protection against deed theft, seller impersonation and other forms of property fraud.
C.A.R. is one of the nation’s largest state real estate trade organizations, representing nearly 190,000 REALTORS®, REALTOR®-Associates and affiliate members.
“REALTORS® spend years earning the trust of their clients, but historically there have been very few tools that allow them to continue protecting that relationship after the transaction closes,” said Ryan Marshall, CEO of EquityProtect. “This partnership gives C.A.R. members a practical way to lead with education, help clients understand property-specific risk and put the lawful homeowner in control before an unauthorized transaction can move forward. It protects the homeowner while creating a meaningful reason for the REALTOR® to remain connected throughout the life of the property.”
A Post-Closing Client Protection Platform
Through the C.A.R. Partner Program, EquityProtect is building the property-protection relationship around four integrated components:
Education and Property Risk Intelligence: Parcel-specific risk assessments designed to help agents and property owners better understand factors associated with deed, title and seller-impersonation fraud
Enhanced Monitoring: Ongoing monitoring of property records and digital signals associated with ownership, property listings and other potential fraud indicators
Owner-Controlled Protection: An authentication and authorization checkpoint designed to require the lawful property owner’s approval before a protected sale, refinance or other authorized transaction proceeds
Restoration Protection: Eligible protection of up to $1 million per property if a covered fraud event occurs despite the preventive safeguards, subject to applicable program and policy terms
The four-part model follows EquityProtect’s broader approach of assess, monitor, control and restore, rather than relying exclusively on notifications after potentially fraudulent activity has already occurred.
The C.A.R. member experience also gives agents a portfolio view of their past and current clients. Members can bring existing client properties into the platform, evaluate parcel-level risk and equity indicators, see protection and monitoring status, and identify where a client conversation may be appropriate.
“Our focus is on identifying products and services that create practical value for C.A.R. members and help them serve their clients throughout the ownership lifecycle,” said Dave Walsh, Chairperson of REBS. “EquityProtect gives REALTORS® another way to educate homeowners about an evolving fraud risk while delivering meaningful value well beyond the original transaction.”
Member Choice and Client Value
The broader member proposition is designed around a simple idea: Protecting a client after closing can strengthen the relationship before the next transaction. EquityProtect’s C.A.R. materials position the program around ongoing visibility, client reassurance and a structured opportunity to reconnect when a protected homeowner later sells or refinances.
EquityProtect is not title insurance and is not intended to replace title insurance. Rather, the platform is designed to complement the existing real estate and title ecosystem by focusing on property-fraud education, continuous monitoring and preventive owner authorization after a transaction has closed.
“Most fraud solutions tell a property owner that something has already happened,” Marshall added. “Our objective is to move the conversation upstream. If we can identify risk earlier, authenticate the owner and create friction before the fraudulent transaction is completed, we have a much better opportunity to protect both the homeowner and the integrity of the real estate transaction.”
